You may wonder how a hair
salon is able to help our community and protect our
environment. Whether it be through monetary donations, gift
baskets for fundraisers or recycling, KJ & Kompany has been
getting involved.
This year we were awarded
first place in the Aquage Susan G. Komen for The Cure
display contest. It is a nationwide contest between salons
raising Breast Cancer Awareness through displays and selling
products which part of the proceeds go toward cancer
research. This was our first year participating in the
contest and we are honored and excited to receive first
place. Our employee, Lindsay Taylor designed our winning
display and we couldn’t be more proud. She designed a large
shelving unit in the shape of a pink ribbon which we then
donated to the Mammography Suite in the Covenant Medical
Center. We also contribute to the Pink Ribbon Classic Golf
Tournament annually. We, as women cannot say enough about
supporting this cause.
Our foil gets recycled
through the Waterloo Shriners. They use the funds generated
for the Shriners Hospitals for Children which are dedicated
to the care of children across the country. Children up to
the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord
injuries and cleft palates are eligible for admission and
receive all care needed with no financial obligation to
patients or families. Our hair clippings get recycled and
sent to aid in the oil spill in the Gulf. The hair is made
into mats or stuffed into nylons which will help soak up the
oil. Of course we continue to recycle our cans and bottles
too. |

We donated to and
participated in the JDRF Walk for Jared to raise money for
Juvenile Diabetes research that was held in the Crossroads
Mall. We contribute and take part in a golf tournament for
ALS for Lou Gehrigs Disease research, which is held in
Parkersburg every year. We sell Aveda candles with all
proceeds going towards the National Audobon Society which
keeps our rivers and lakes clean as well as helping to
preserve the habitat for wildlife along the rivers and
lakes. The Audobon Society is also now actively involved in
cleaning up the oil spill in the Gulf. We support and
contribute to the Black Hawk Humane Society and carry John
Paul pet products, which proudly tests their products on
humans not animals for safety.
We care about local events
as well. When Parkersburg and New Hartford were hit by the
tornado, we sent boxes of products to be dispersed to those
in need. We also donate to our local schools for After
Proms as well as numerous local charities and fundraisers.
We remain conscious to the needs of the community and search
for ways to protect our environment. We maintain our
relationship with Aveda and carry their products which are
all plant based and are environmentally friendly. Aveda
constantly finds ways to help the environment and we look
forward to their on-going ideas and efforts. KJ & Kompany
kares about our community, our state and our environment and
we will continue to participate in as many charitable acts
as we can.
